History

I first studied art history at the University of Louvain (1982-1987), then continued to train at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (1987-1988), and the Rubens House in Antwerp (1990). After 10 years in the art trade I set up my own art gallery: Bernard Descheemaeker - Works of Art. The gallery is situated at the Helenalei 7, 2018 Antwerp, Belgium (location and road description). My collection comprises: 12th & 13th-century champlevé enamels 15th, 16th and 17th-century painted enamels (émail peint) from Limoges romanesque and gothic ivories decorative bronze objects 16th and early 17th-century ceramics from Antwerp and France (M. Abaquesne, suite de Palissy, ...) sculpture and reliefs from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance illuminated manuscripts and medieval miniatures 15th, 16th and 17th-century paintings, oil sketches and drawings miscellanea - works of art in copper, brass, bronze, ivory, mother-of-pearl, silver gilt and textiles

Business is thriving. My clientèle comprises collectors and museums. I focus on top-quality objects, an approach which has resulted in important sales to museums at home and abroad. My trump cards are my knowledge, expertise, critical eye and experience acquired during my many years in the international art trade and the museum world.
